J-Stat – “Breakcore Pancakes” live set
by cutups on Dec.01, 2008, under audio
J-Stat is a Detroit based producer who has been consistantly stepping up his game since I first heard him a few years back. His sound is a mutant hybrid of many styles – dubstep, techno, breakcore, industrial. The most impressive aspect of his sound is how fluidly he incorporates all of these sounds into something fresh, moving between different tempos and styles of syncopation. He normally can be heard playing at From The Gut related events in the Detroit area. Look out for an upcoming 7″ on No Room For Talent and some future releases on Void.

Dimentia – A Vision’s Voice – Void 8 CD
by cutups on Nov.17, 2008, under audio, reviews

Although he has been making noise and electronic music for over a decade, A Vision’s Voice is Dimentia’s first full length release, and was put out by Detroit’s Void imprint.
Currently based in Oakland California, Dimentia has been involved with various West Coast soundsystem projects, such as SPAZ, Katabatik and the Autonomous Mutant Fest. My first and only live exposure to his sounds was at the Massive Support release show in Detroit back in May 2008, and his slow, massively intense broken sound instantly made me a fan. Obtuse, alien synth workcreates a backdrop for shredded head-banger noise and bass. For fans of Somatic Responses, Winterkalte or Resurrector.

ValaV – live set
by cutups on Nov.17, 2008, under audio
ValaV is a project of Gent, Belgium’s Val Le. A long time promoter and fan of electronic music, Val is a member of the infamous Breakcore Gives Me Wood crew, as well as the fun splatter-rave band the Gigglin Dildas. This solo project has a darker, more industrial sound than the Dildas, fusing elements of atmospheric technoid broken beat, bleak hardcore techno and raw, synthetic breakcore. This live set was recorded in November 2008.
