Album: Blaerg – Everything Was Altered
by cutups on Jan.04, 2011, under audio

Awesome dood who has been laying low in the midwest scene, BLÆRG, aka Toledo’s Scott Wehman has put out a new release, as pay-what-you-want deal on Bandcamp. It’s nine tracks and is full of expertly editted and manipulated breaks and melodies.
By his own description, it’s Smooth-fusion jazz, obscure breaks manipulation & bio-psycho-social-spiritual integration.
Artist: Divtech
by cutups on Dec.21, 2010, under audio, reviews
Divtech is the alias of David Flashner, a young producer from Orange County, California. He came to my attention after hearing hype for his upcoming appearance at a DarkMatter Soundsystem event, and I pretty much know I’m going to want to check out anything they’re hyping.
[soundcloud url="http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/7167397"]
After checking some of his net-label releases and soundcloud offerings, I was really blown away. His sounds range from detailed, chip-tune infused speedcore with intense atmospheric breakdowns, to ultra-fast digi-metal, in the mold of Drumcorps or Eustachian, to absurd pop-breakcore refixes. It’s all got a really fresh, “I don’t give a fuck” streak to it as well.
You can grab his full length album on Marionette Records:

http://marionette-records.co.uk/downloads/Divtech_-_We_Want_Your_Soul.rar
As well as a split EP with Ladyscraper.
Leaving you with this excellent refix he did for an http://www.ihatebreakcore.com contest:

Album: Capslock – Combustion
by cutups on Dec.20, 2010, under audio
Capslock is Joris Vijfhuizen, a live act and producer from the Netherlands. He’s been making tunes since the gabber days of the 90s, but since the mid-2000′s, he’s crafted a more nuanced and finely honed style of dark, broken beaks influenced by breakcore, electro and industrial.
I’ve been really impressed with some of his work that he’s been releasing for free or as a pay-what-you want download over the past few years, through Ketacore and UEH Records. His 2009 release on UEH “Amniocentesis” was solidly one of the top hard and broken records of the year.
His latest effort is entitled “Combustion”, is 14 tracks of chunky left-field broken hardcore and industrial acid, solidly for fans of Sounds Never Seen and Somatic Responses. You can stream or download it from his bandcamp site linked below.
Track: Ophex – Analog Porn
by cutups on Dec.20, 2010, under audio
Ophex is Karolis Rimkus from Vilnius, Lithuania.
He’s one of those artists that I literally stumbled across on soundcloud. He makes a variety of tunes that touch on Kuduro, Dutch House, 8-Bit, and Hardcore. “Analog Porn” is a banger that pretty much fuses all that into one strange, fun and funky missle.
Check out his other tunes on his soundcloud page: http://soundcloud.com/ophex

Somatic Responses – Mercury
by cutups on Jul.09, 2009, under audio
The brothers John and Paul Healy, collectively known throughout the world as Somatic Responses, are still native residents of a small industrial mining community snugly located in the southwest region of Wales. Somatic Responses are into complex dislocated & broken beats, distorted intelligent constructions, fascinating sonic structures, force and sweetness intertwined.
If their early productions were of the hardcore and techno kind, and while they later moved on to breakcore territories, Somatic Responses have now embraced more up-to-date and modern sounds and tackled the current dubstep sound that has taken their native UK by storm, and are ready to out-bass pretty much everybody else.
Mercury is definitely an important release for SR as it displays their progression further into dubstep & it’s ever mutating siblings. A shape of things to come AND some of their best material for some time.

Jamie Vex’d – Sunday Walkman Mix
by 8cylinder on Mar.10, 2009, under audio

Artwork from the forthcoming “System Travel EP” on Planet-Mu
You should know Jamie Vex’d as 1/2 of the amazing Vex’d project, mostly known for their seriously heavy, dark and noisey take on dubstep as expressed in their 2005 album Degenerate on Planet-Mu records. He’s now putting out some solo material, and thus far it’s been pretty stellar. This mix includes a few of those tracks plus a variety of excellent, new psychedelic dubstep sounds. Enjoy!

J-Stat – “Breakcore Pancakes” live set
by cutups on Dec.01, 2008, under audio
J-Stat is a Detroit based producer who has been consistantly stepping up his game since I first heard him a few years back. His sound is a mutant hybrid of many styles – dubstep, techno, breakcore, industrial. The most impressive aspect of his sound is how fluidly he incorporates all of these sounds into something fresh, moving between different tempos and styles of syncopation. He normally can be heard playing at From The Gut related events in the Detroit area. Look out for an upcoming 7″ on No Room For Talent and some future releases on Void.
